Robert Jefferson Cornett

Passed away on December 21, 2025

Robert Jefferson Cornett

Robert Jefferson Cornett, age 69, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on December 21, 2025.

Robert was a kind, generous, and compassionate man whose life was marked by faith, perseverance, and a deep love for his family. He was hardworking, detail-oriented, and always willing to help others. Known affectionately as “Encyclopedia Robert,” he often joked that he “didn’t know everything but knew a little about everything.” He was also fondly referred to as the “grammar police,” a title he wore with pride and humor.

Robert had a lifelong love of all things automotive, enjoyed participating in 5K walks, and found great joy in reading and learning new things. He was a faithful member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where his faith was nurtured and shared with others. Above all, he will be remembered for his tenacity and determination to keep going despite lifelong health battles, and for his unwavering faith, which guided him throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Joyce Herring Cornett and Eugene Jefferson Cornett; his infant son, Alex Jefferson Cornett; and his brother-in-law, Harmon Heidt.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan Davenport Cornett; his daughter, Erin Cornett Saxon and her husband Johnathan; his sisters, Jeanie Eckmann and Janice Heidt; his sisters-in-law, Debbie Williamson and Jackie Fall and her husband Larry; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other beloved family members and friends.

Robert’s strength, kindness, and quiet wisdom will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Robert’s name to First Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 15935, Savannah, GA 31416 or a charity of your choice.

Our family did not know Robert but we know Erin and Johnathan. We see the type of woman Erin is and know she has extraordinary parents. A man has made a deep mark in peoples lives and their children's lives when friends who didn't know him grieve for his child and her loss. Roberts mark on this world will live on in Erin, who is a bright light in this world. Our condolences to the whole family.
